Paintings

First four large paintings I did was way back. I sold one, kept the others. Kept one on the frame, took the other two off.

The next painting I sold was much later when I had advanced my style some what.

The next set of large paintings was much later, with a lot of other art in between.

First I use thumb tacks on the garage door but I step on a few that pop out and who needs that.

This is going to work, I think.

I use a staple gun after that because what was I thinking using thumb tacks.

Painting No 1.
"Tropical Fish For Sale. "

I've been thinking about these paintings for a long time. Some of them were the ones I would have done with the first batch, but i didn't have the skill or the experience. Some of them I was going to have to do as a performance, all in one go, because of the combination of qualities that required working wet on wet, on primed and unprimed canvas, with speed or with slowness.

This one should be pretty straightforward, nothing fancy or difficult.

Oh. Nevermind.

Okay well then.

I don't normally talk about my work. I'm happy to be oblique and cryptic instead. With these I have no interest in obscuring their content, or what I've done with them. The development of this process has taken a long time and I'm only rarely able to successfully perform it.

I used to live near a tropical fish store, it made a big impression on me.

I like painting, it's a fulfilling thing.

Movement, rhythm, composition, balance,  control, chance. Working in sections, building up layer by layer.

I paint because I get to see something unique every single time. That's why everyone makes art yeah? No matter what you're making, you're experiencing something form in front of you that didn't exist before. It's such an odd thing.

Alrighty, a few more bits to finish and this one is done.

Interference Green is one of my favorite paints.

Big ceramic bowl is luxury painting accessory.

Using some glow in the dark powders in these and they are as fun as you'd think.

There we go. Finished. I started another one while I was working on this first one, stapled it up next to it.

Painting No.2: "Something Atom Bomb"

I can only cover so much ground in ~5 paintings, which is what I'm anticipating for this series. This one is over due for combining illustration and painting techniques I like.

There we go. Very straightforward.

Not much time for a break, but a day in the city present plenty of inspiration. And I want to do one that's a celebration of big robot fights. Onto the next two. These feel pretty dialed in already but I want to leave room for discovery.

Painting No.3: "S Jackson St"

Painting No.4: "Big Robot Fight"

I love cartoon robots so much.

This is an intense month, it turns out.

I'm glad I have paintings to work on.

Finished. Direct and fun.

If I didn't have an image in mind this would have been faster, but navigating to the final image took an unexpected amount of babying.

Finished. Moving on.

Painting No.5: "Bad"

I finished this painting and rolled it up, it is unpleasant. If I can I will paint over it, or I will store it until I can destroy it.

Painting No.6: "Simple Ordinary Landscape"

I've communicated that I have three paintings left in this series. This one, one titled 'The Billionaire Problem' that I am going to have to do as a performance, and one that will be slightly smaller than the others and requires building a stretcher.
I'm eager to paint a simple landscape. I'm going to record it as well, to start.

And there we are.

And there we go.

And done.

Painting No.7: "The Billionaire Problem"

I can't believe I have another painting left, and I have to build a stretcher for it. Oof oof oof. I'm worn out by this body of work. Brief rest and back to it.
